Reflection of 2012

So it seems to me that 2012 was very much a year of overcoming for many people in many ways. Whether that may be in making a step forward or having a fresh start.
Firstly, the one thing everyone will talk about for years to come: the Olympics. So this year London hosted the 2012 Olympics. The opening, closing and paralympic ceremonies were incredible.

One person featured in this was Emeli Sande. To me this woman is incredible! I've had the privilege to watch her perform live at the Olympic Torch Relay Gig in Cardiff. I love her style...I shared that day with a few friends and it was incredible! The sun was beaming down, there was free unlimited coke (even though I hardly drink it) and it was just a day to unite together. Also here were Kids In Glass Houses and You Me At Six. Both two of my favourite bands! ALL FOR FREE!

On a slightly different note...though a friend, I discovered the musician Ron Pope. One song that really struck me this year was "Reason To Hope". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBOb0e6HXbs Those of you who know me may have some idea of why it struck me, for others, just know there's always hope.

Also, this year was the Queen's diamond jubilee. The amount of money spent on security for her to tour the country must have been IMMENSE! It may be called a waste of money, but I for one enjoyed the privilege of being able to sing as part of Cyfarthfa High School's choir for here at Cyfarthfa Castle. Also, the concert put on for her outside the palace was incredible. The acts weren't great, but the jubilee song (not that I agree with bringing all those children over here to witness our wealth just to send them back to third world conditions again.. but that's another story!) and the light display when Madness were playing were amazing.

Welcoming in 2013 was off to a great start with the fireworks display. The best I've ever seen! Though, despite the staggering displays of wealth and good fortune, we must not forget those who live in great need.

Overall, I believe this year was a year of hope, overcoming and a sense of togetherness. I think the Queen summed this up greatly by saying "I hope that memories of all this year's happy events will brighten our lives for many years to come".
